I have just got a Garmin Etrex GPS myself, and have been learning how to use it. I have come across some useful information on the net and thought I would share some tips and links I have come across. If you have any information you would like to add please contact me and we will share it with the world! Hint 1 Firstly, instead of getting coordinates from a paper map, I have found an easy way to get grid references is to use the OS Get a Map Service. Bring up the map you want, and click on the feature you want (e.g. a hill summit). As well as centring the feature it will also give you the grid reference at the bottom of the screen. Some of the other mapping sites also have this feature, but the OS site seems to be the easiest to use in this fashion. Useful Links Garmin - they sell GPSs Nav-e-gate-4less - GPS purchase on line SMC - they sell a CD with Munro routes Phil Newby's site: Phil has various lists including hill summits in different formats Geocaching: All about hiding and discovering caches using your GPS. A sort of treasure hunt. Sad really. National GPS Network: Not sure how useful this is but seems incomplete to leave out. Henry Marston's routes: Some GPS coordinates for Munros routes etc.
