Lunch with Linford
|
|
Hi, my name is Linford and I am a guest writer for this website. Now, you all know whats in my lunchbox, but what's in yours? You know what its like. You're out walking with a group and you all stop for lunch. You settle yourselves down and everybody produces various food items from assorted Tupperware containers. Your anticipation of a tasty lunch after a hard slog wanes as you see that everybody else's fare is a Jamie Oliver creation while yours is a Royle Family dogs dinner. Now that I,ve given up the running game and started hillwalking I need some advice on that magnificent munro munch. So contact Allan with your advice and he will pass details on to me. I will post ideas on this page so that everyone can satisfy their hill hunger and ensure that the Ancrum is the fattest club in the land - and before you tell me the obvious items, yes I know that salami sausage is spicy and tasty and is an ideal hill food. Love from Linford Ideas for the luscious lunchbox Mars bar: don't leave home without it. OK in summer, but will break your teeth in winter. Wallace's pie (or "peh"): an unlikely candidate. However, in a controlled experiment, we sent an AMC member out on the hill without having had any. He lagged behind until lunchtime. After two pies on top of the first hill, he sprinted way ahead for 20 minutes before slowing down. Conclusion: Wallace's pies are good for short term energy gain, but probably long term weight gain. Sandwich: Allan says "It has to be good quality granary bread with cold meat from the deli, or better, pate."
