Travel information
AA Route Planner or use RAC Route Planner Plan your route. Easier to use if you have postcodes for start and finish points
AA Traffic News For Scotland. This is better than the Tayside Police site
Caledonian MacBrayne (CalMac) Ferry times. Easy on-line booking (I have used this)
First Scotrail Scottish fiction
More Railway timetables More pure fiction, but you might be lucky
Tayside Police - road closures Does what it says on the tin - except it doesn't, in my humble opinion, without prejudice.
Tayside Police - speed camera locations
Probably more fiction, but best to be wary. Look out for an unmarked white van on the A9 between Balsporran Cottages and the Dalwhinnie turn off - a favourite place.
Weather sites
Accuweather Mountain Forecasts Lots of information, not as easy to follow as the MWIS below.
BBC Hello there!.Great stuff from the best website ever, and easy to follow. The BBC website also has links to Radio Scotland, and if you have Broadband you can listern to the latest Outdoor Forecast.
Met Office All the information you could ever want, and more.
Mountain Weather Information Service (MWIS) Easy to read pdf downloads for regions of Scotland, Excellent.
Sports Scotland Avalanche Centre The definitive avalanche risk guide. Essential reference in winter.
Synoptic chart for next 120 hours For the DIY weather expert who has no time for Heather (BBC) or Lara (Channel 5)
West Coast Mountain Guides (Alan Kimber) also see Abacus Mountaineering for similar information A useful update of snow and climbing conditions from an expert who was out in the white stuff yesterday!
Winternet Scotland Links to latest reports of climbing conditions, and webcams of mountain areas. Very useful, and quite current, most of the information is from Mountain Guides - mainly covers the Cairngorms.
